Stamps that were a "first" or were a "change from the standard".   For example the Canadian series of the 1935 King George Pictorial Issue was the first to have the "hidden date" engraved into the design, Canada stamp # 474, Georges Vanier, was the first stamp to use metric sizing (as opposed to imperial sizing).   There are many other examples, i.e: first "P" stamp, first die-cut etc - most every country will have similar changes.   One can interpret the "first" or "change" in many ways.
